Over the last few weeks on our Facebook page, we’ve been tackling various myths and misconceptions about financial advisers and the work we do. It’s easy to be overwhelmed with the idea of seeing an IFA if you’ve never considered it before, or even if no one in your family has. But there are plenty of reasons why seeing a financial adviser even once in your life can result in massive benefits.
Of course, all the specific services IFAs offer are just one part of the deal. Help with specific problems and gaining advice on things like investments, mortgages and insurance is just one part of how we help our clients.
So, here are 6 extra reasons why you should be considering seeing a financial adviser…
1. To Get New, Objective Opinions
Have you ever been in the middle of trying to solve a personal problem, but because you’re so close to the situation it’s hard to think clearly? And then someone else gives you an obvious piece of advice that you just never considered?
Oftentimes, we’re so crowded in by our own perspective that we can’t see simple solutions that are staring us right in the face. By working with a financial adviser, you’ll receive objective and independent advice from experts who have been trained to see solutions and options available to you. Sometimes, just having a fresh set of eyes on a problem can be exactly what you need. And it doesn’t hurt to have those eyes belong to experts…
2. Setting Specific Goals
In every piece of advice about managing money there’s the part that says setting specific and clear goals is the way to success. Well, they’re not wrong. Having clear objectives that you’re aiming to meet in terms of your savings (or any other part of money management) can help make you feel more motivated and makes the whole concept of wealth management seem more attainable.
When you work with an IFA, they’ll help you set these specific goals that are achievable, no matter your circumstances, and then go the extra step to create a roadmap with steps to achieve those goals.
3. Regular Check-Ins
It’s so easy to fall off the wagon with things like saving, regularly investing, or keeping up with news and deals to do with mortgages, insurance and investments. Once you’ve begun a relationship with your IFA, you can organise to have regular check-ins through email, over the phone or in person (when it’s safe to do so!) to keep up with your money and progress in whatever aspect you need help with.
Creating close relationships with clients is one the most rewarding parts of being a financial adviser, and it’s something we take great pride in here at Greenfields. We have taken many of our clients from their initial meeting, through years of advice and right into retirement age and further. We’re a family-led and focused business, and creating strong, lasting relationships with our clients is what we do best (other than give advice, of course).
4. Big Picture Thinking
At Greenfields, we’re what’s known as holistic financial advisers. This means that if you come to us with a specific area you want us to work on, we’ll usually take a look at your finances as a whole and use every aspect of your current situation to create goals and plans going forward. This big picture thinking has helped many of our clients create lasting changes to their wealth and means we might catch areas for improvement that you never considered.
5. It Saves You Time
Keeping track of, and managing, your own finances is incredibly time consuming. In today’s busy world, many of us just don’t have time to manage everything alone, especially if you’re already overwhelmed by work and managing a home or children. When you see an IFA, you may be giving up an hour of your time, but then the work is out of your hands. You can save so much time by outsourcing research and management time to us, so why not give it a try?
6. We’ll Never Take Advantage
All independent financial advisers in the UK need to be regulated by the FCA, which means that we operate under strict rules and regulations. This is in place so that clients and customers can rest assured that we’ll never do anything untoward or unexpected with your money. This also means that we do not try to sell you anything. Whereas, if you were to research certain products on your own, you may be swayed by clever marketing and information you come across online by looking directly and provider sites.
With us doing the dirty work, you can be confident that your funds are in safe hands, and that we’ll only do what we think is best for you and your goals.
Like we said above, the actual advice and tips we give to our customers are only part of the deal. When you visit an IFA, you’re not only getting industry-standard advice, you’re getting our time, our energy and our care.
